MMD’s call for early elections wrong

FOR the 20 years MMD was in power, nobody talked about early elections. Even when parastatal companies were being sold for a song and workers retrenched, there was no talk of early polls.

The continued nullification of MMD parliamentary seats cannot surprise any one who saw to what lengths MMD leaders went to try and retain power.

For the first time in Zambia’s history, we saw trees wearing ‘fitenge’. The Electoral Code of Conduct was flouted with impunity. Now, what was sown is being reapt.

It’s just sad that the legal process takes too long, thereby allowing some affected Members of Parliament (MPs) to get money ‘by false pretences’. The new Constitution should not allow MPs who have been petitioned to be sworn-in.

But even if elections were to come now, Zambians are able to see that real national development is going on. Rome was not built in 90 days.
