high court11By YVONNE CHATE –

A WIFE of Ndola’s Chifubu Township has been sentenced to 20 days community service for clobbering her husband and injuring his private parts following his persistent complaints over delays to prepare him meals.
In default, Prisca Namonje, 31, of plot number 4258 will face a five months jail sentence.
Namonje who could not stand her husband, Steven Phiri’s nagging over delayed meals each time he came back from work, decided to lock the door to their house on the night of May 31, this year and descended on her husband.
This was before Magistrate Moffat Phiri in a Ndola court yesterday.
Mr Phiri told the court that, on the unfortunate evening, he came home from work and found his wife asleep without preparing supper for him.
He then woke up Namonje to find out why his meal was not ready but the couple ended up quarrelling.
The wife decided to lock the door to the house and started beating him as well as pulling his private parts.
“When I asked for the food, she woke and locked the door and started beating me up and pulling my private parts and I ended up in hospital,” he narrated.
He was only rescued by neighbours who heard the screams from their house and hastily took him to Ndola Central Hospital for treatment.
Mr Phiri was issued a medical report that was consistent with the allegations of being beaten.
Namonje pleaded for leniency to the offence she admitted committing and that she would not repeat a similar act.
