GOVERNMENT has collected about K22 million on average from toll gates on selected points of some roads in Zambia, says Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Minister Yamfwa Mukanga.
“We collect about K22 million on average from the toll gates and most of the collections come from bigger trucks, we expect to collect more when we roll out the actual programme,” Mr Mukanga said.
He said the money was raised through a pilot project involving seven toll gates that have been erected on weigh-bridges.
Only trucks passing through the seven weigh-bridges are currently being levied.
Mr Mukanga said about six toll gates were currently under construction in Kabangwe, Kapiri Mposhi, Chisamba, Levy Mwanawasa, Kafulafuta and
Sebina in Kitwe.
