THE Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has approved a US$4.6 million grant to enable the Zambia Prisons Service carry out installation of centre pivots in four prison farms in Zambia.
The farms to benefit are Nansanga in Serenje, Musakamba in Mkushi, Chitwe in Luashya and Lubambala in Mpika.
Zambia Prisons deputy commissioner Fredrick Chilukutu said the Prisons Service was happy that the ministry had provided $4.604,771 for the installation of the pivots.
Mr Chilukutu said the Service had committed itself to increasing productivity and was happy with the support rendered by the Government.
Last year, the Government allocated K22 million to the Prisons Service to help it mechanise the farms and the programmes are on schedule.
“The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has approved a grant that will be used to install centre pivots in four farms,” Mr Chilukutu. “This is a great achievement.”
Mr Chilukutu further said that construction of the Petauke Milling Plant in Eastern Province had reached procurement level under the Ministry of Home Affairs and that once complete in 2017, it would help produce 200 tonnes of mealie meal per day.
