By CHARITY MOONGA –

THE MMD has upheld the expulsions of senior party officials, who include former national secretary Muhabi Lungu for defiance to accept Nevers Mumba as the party president.
Others are party deputy national secretary Chembe Nyangu, Faustina Sinyangwe, Joyce Munsanje and Jane Mukalita.
MMD spokesperson Raphael Nakachinda said in an interview that the decision to maintain the expulsions of the members was decided during a national executive committee (NEC) meeting held on Saturday.
Mr Nakachinda said the members refused to work under the leadership of Dr Mumba.
Mr Nakachinda said the meeting was held in a spirit of reconciliation and was reconsidering the expulsions of Kasempa Member of Parliament (MP) Kabinga Pande, Kenneth Chipungu of Rufunsa and Levy Ngoma of Sinda.
He said the four members had shown remorse and the party would consider their submissions.
“These MPs have shown their commitment to the cause of the party and, therefore, the party will consider them favourably,” he said.
Dr Mumba is tomorrow expected to state the position of the members.
Mr Nyangu said in a separate interview that he was not aware about the latest development.
“I am not aware that I and others have been expelled and I don’t understand how many times they are going to be expelling us,” he said.
