ZAMBIAN Fertilisers Limited has acquired three hectares of land in the Lusaka South MultiFacility Economic Zone (MFEZ) for the construction of a new blending facility at the cost of US$4 million.
Company sales manager Gene Phiri said in an interview in Lusaka that the company was in the process of constructing a new and bigger blending facility in the LSMFEZ at the cost of US$4,000,000.
The facility will enable the company to more than triple the production capacity from the current 10, 000 tonnes per annum.
Mr Phiri said that works had commenced and the construction of the new facility was expected to be completed by March 2016.
He noted that the Zambian agricultural industry was growing, hence the construction of the new plant to meet the rising demand.
“The Zambian agriculture industry is expanding and because of that we are also expanding, we are putting up a new plant in the LSMFEZ.
“This facility will see our company’s production capacity more than triple and is a definite answer to fertiliser shortages during farming seasons in the country and will further contribute to the country’s economic growth and job creation for the local people,” Mr Phiri said.
He said the new plant would mean no shortage of fertiliser in the country and farmers would be assured of a constant supply of inputs, adding that food security would also be enhanced.
