Lumwana 4 Zesco Solwezi 0
LUMWANA Radiants at the weekend made history by becoming the first football team from the North-Western Province to qualify for the Barclays Cup competition after finishing top of the MTN-FAZ Division One north league table after Week 17 matches played.
Kabwe Warriors completed the number of teams that will compete in this year’s competition after topping the FAZ Division One South table to join big guns Zanaco, Power Dynamos, Zesco United, Nkwazi, Green Buffaloes and ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers.
Lumwana qualified to the 2015 Barclays Cup in style by thumping Zesco Solwezi in a FAZ Division One North Week 17 derby at Lumwana Football Grounds.
A brace by Andre Monami and a goal each from Goon Mutate and Lembani Lungu sealed the victory for Lumwana, who go into the mid-season break in charge of the Division One North League on 35 points, two clear of arch rivals, Kalulushi Modern Stars.
Ndola   0 Kalulushi 2
Kalulushi Modern Stars missed out on a chance to play in the Barclays Cup despite winning away at Ndola United.
Despite not qualifying for the Barclays Cup, Kalulushi still remain in hunt for a slot in the Super Division as they stay second on the log on 33 points behind Lumwana.
Kansanshi 1 Roan 0
Roan United’s hopes for a quick return to the top flight suffered another jolt after tumbling to Kansanshi Dynamos in Solwezi.
Chindwin 2 Blackpool 0
Chindwin Sentries applied brakes to Mufulira Blackpool’s rise on the log with a convincing victory in Kabwe.
Blackpool failed to respond to a first-half brace by Reuben Malango which lifted Chindwin into midtable on 24 points.
In other Division One North Week 17 matches, Chambishi edged Copperbelt Buffaloes 1-0 while Indeni were forced to a 1-1 draw by Zesco Luapula at home.
Rock-bottom Konkola Mine Police crafted a rare win beating Kitwe United 1-0 in Chililabombwe to go to nine points from 17 games while Mining Rangers lost 1-2 at home to Gomes. Real Nakonde were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting First Quantum Minerals.
Warriors 2 Katete 0
Kabwe Warriors made it into the 2015 Barclays Cup party without the need for the FAZ disciplinary committee sitting to decide on their abandoned game against Luena Buffaloes.
Warriors’ cause was helped first by Katete Rangers, who failed to make the trip to Kabwe to hand the railwaymen a 2-0 win and three points, and secondly after their rivals for the Barclays spot-Lusaka Tigers-lost 1-0 away to Paramilitary.
This means Warriors jumped to 38 points from 16 matches, three points clear of Tigers who have played a game more. Paramilitary, who have now won three of the last four games and are now on 22 points, five off the relegation line now held by City of Lusaka.
Also picking up a vital win at the weekend was Prison Leopards who defeated a sorry Lusaka City Council (LCC) 2-0 at home to rebound from their first loss of the season last week. Despite staying in fourth place with 30 points, Prisons also cut the gap between them and third placed Nampundwe to just a point.
City 4 Mongu 1
Dave Musole coached City of Lusaka got their biggest win of the season after thumping Mongu Youth Academy at Woodlands Stadium to move to 17 points while Riflemen defeated Kafue Celtic 2-1 to jump to seventh on the table with 24 points.
Pirates 1 Nampundwe 1
Livingstone Pirates held an attack-minded Nampundwe to halt the visiting team’s surge to the top and also signalled a series of four draws over the weekend, three of which were scoreless.
Zesco Shockers and Matero United played out a goalless draw, just as Malaiti Rangers did at home to Kalomo Jetters with Luena Buffaloes also drawing 0-0 away to Mumbwa Medics.
