SEVERAL companies in Ndola have joined hands to pool finances for the lighting of Kabelenga Avenue, with Times Printpak Zambia Limited contributing K6,000 to the project.
Other companies that have donated towards the project are SGC, Lynx, Aabiya Lodge, Crossways College and Butcher Quip.
Others still are Zanji Lodge, LTII Supermarket and Pantry Pride Limited.
Ndola Mayor Samuel Munthali said when he received the cheque in Ndola on Monday that the project of street lighting embarked on by the Ndola companies signified the importance they attached to issues affecting the community and their operations.
Mr Munthali urged other business houses in the city to emulate the efforts being spearheaded to undertake street lighting of some of the routes as most did have lights.
“I would like to thank Times Printpak for the donation and urge other business houses in Ndola to take a leaf and join hands in this noble engagement,” he said.
Project Resource Mobilisation Committee chairperson, Aziz Mohammed, the proprietor of Pantry Pride, also thanked various organisations that had provided resources towards the project.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the organisations that contributed to this project and at the same time appeal to others and the business community to contribute as it is for the betterment of the country,” Mr Mohammed said.
Times director of human resources and administration Getrude Kabezya said the donation was one way of investing in the community.
“As you are aware, the installation of street lights will make it easy for our employees and the public at large to use, and I wish to call upon other organisations to be socially responsible by contributing towards this noble cause,” Ms Kabezya said.
