By JAMES KUNDA –

VICE-PRESIDENT Inonge Wina has warned that perpetrators of the recent shooting incidences in Tuesday’s by-elections in Mulobezi will face the wrath of the law.
Ms Wina told Parliament yesterday that law-enforcement agencies were pursuing the matter and those found wanting would be prosecuted regardless of political affiliation.
Ms Wina was responding to a question from Monze Central UPND Member of Parliament (MP) Jack Mwiimbu during her question-and-answer session.
Mr Mwiimbu wanted to know whether members of the public should procure ammunition for self-defence.
“The Government does not condone violence and those people who were involved in that incident will not go scot-free as the law will catch up with them,” she said.
Ms Wina called on political party leaders to senstise their members on the need to refrain from violence as the country was a haven of peace, and that the status quo should be maintained.
She said the Government did not segregate in the delivery of development as President Edgar Lungu’s administration was committed to uplifting the livelihood of every Zambian.
Ms Wina also said District Commissioners should be of exemplary conduct and refrain from participating in active politics.
She was responding to a question by Kalomo UPND MP Request Muntanga who wanted to know why some district commissioners were parading themselves at political party rallies.
The Vice-President further challenged people questioning the credibility of Zesco to report the power utility to relevant security wings to pave way for investigations over allegations of incompetence.
Ms Wina said Zesco was not corrupt but people who thought otherwise were free to report to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to probe the matter.
She was responding to a question by Lubanseshi Independent MP Patrick Mucheleka who raised allegations of corruption in the power utility.
Ms Wina said the current electricity tariffs would be maintained to protect consumers from overstretching their capacity to purchase electricity for domestic and commercial use.
