MPONGWE’S VTC Football Club is determined to win the 2015 District Amateur League title following its unbeaten run this season so far.
Team manager Bram Sol said since the formation of the team in 2013 it had emerged victorious in all the competitions and expressed confidence that the club would win the league title.
Sol said Mpongwe youths have been kept busy and helped them stay away from engaging in vices like beer drinking due to the club.
“There’s abundant talent here and football keeps the youths busy away from vices such as beer drinking,” he said.
He said a number of young players had been co-opted in the team, attracting huge following from members of the community.
“We have a couple of young players in our team who play for the team because of their passion because sport was a healthier way of life,” he said.
He said there was abundant talent in the area and players were committed to the sport as they participate just for the love of the sport.
Sol teamed up with members of the community to make the football pitch which has the recommended goal posts.
The team which has now become a daring of the community is currently being coached by George Kalumba.
Zambia striker, Jacob Mulenga’s former Dutch club, Utrecht, last year donated 60 pairs of boots to the team.
