By JAMES KUNDA –

FOUR hundred youths countrywide will next year be recruited to undergo training under the Zambia National Service (ZNS), Defence Deputy Minister Christopher Mulenga has said.
Mr Mulenga said in an interview in Lusaka that 200 of the recruits would be male enrolled at the Chiwoko ZNS training centre in Katete, Eastern Province, while the other 200 who are female would be registered at the ZNS training camp in Kitwe on the Copperbelt.
He said the recruits, who would be mobilised by the Ministry of Youth and Sport, were within the age group of 18 to 35 years.
The training to equip the targeted group with various survival skills would be undertaken over a six-month period.
Mr Mulenga said agriculture, plumbing, bricklaying and tailoring were among some of the skills the recruits would be equipped with to enable them contribute to national development.
“Our target is mostly the vulnerable youth parading the streets with virtually no survival skills at their disposal. But once they are exposed to the ZNS programme, their capacity to contribute to national development will be enriched,” he said.
