GRADUATING students have been advised to lead exemplary lives and avoid engaging in drugs and other vices that destroy their moral standing in society.
Zambia Open University (ZAOU) board chairperson Dickson Mwansa said there is need for graduating students to contribute to the fight against corruption, immorality and drug abuse in the country.
Professor Mwansa said during the ninth graduation ceremony of students at Rusangu University in Monze of Southern Province.
Prof Mwansa in a speech read for him by ZAOU director for quality assurance and extension services Richard Siaciwewa said it was important for the graduates to focus on building their future rather than indulging in immoral conduct.
About 400 students from Rusangu University and 157 students from Eden Institute graduated in various fields.
“As graduating students, you will be expected to contribute to the fight against vices such as corruption, immorality and drug abuse that are destroying the moral fabric of our nation,” Prof Mwansa said.
He urged the graduates to keep their eyes on the future and endeavour to bring about positive change in society by working hard and always depend on God.
SDA Zambia Union Conference president Harrington Akombwa challenged the graduates to find no excuse for being incompetent, corrupt and fraudulent.
Dr Akombwa, who is Rusangu University Chancellor, said the world’s moral fibre was being traversed by malicious lifestyles and pleasure psychosis.
“I charge you to go out into the world and show the world that there is hope when Christian ethics are upheld. Safeguard yourselves against HIV/AIDS and be excellent ambassadors of Rusangu University, Eden Institute and the nation at large,” Dr Akombwa said.
