THE 2015 Ndola Sevens Rugby Championship has attracted 16 teams with holders Red Arrows set to defend their title on August 29.
Tournament organising committee chairperson, Moono Muleya said Ndola had budgeted K50,000 for the annual event where this year’s champions were assured of K7,000 with the losing finalists picking up K5,000.
Muleya appealed to the corporate world to partner with Ndola Wanderers and be part of an exciting rugby tournament.
She said so far Stanbic Bank, First Quantum Minerals, Coastal Hire, G4 Security, Coastal Hire, Corporate Solutions, GIT Inspection and Trading, PB Wholesalers and Acqua Rent-A-Dispenser had come on board to support the event.
Muleya named the participating teams as champions Red Arrows, Kitwe Playing Fields (KPF), Diggers, Nchanga, Mufulira, Konkola, Chibuluma, Chambeshi, Lusaka, Kansanshi, Green Eagles, Nkwazi, Green Buffaloes, Prisons and hosts and Ndola Wanderers.
She said Arrows’ major threat would come from KPF who had recruited former Diggers players in their ranks.
Muleya also said the spectators would be treated to some women rugby involving Arrows and Eagles.
She added that the Ndola Sevens launch would be held tomorrow at the clubhouse.
