Chongwe, Solwezi edge closer to semis

CHONGWE Secondary and Solwezi Technical High edged closer towards qualifying to the semi finals of the 2015 Copa Coca-Cola national schools football tournament at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC).
The Lusaka Province representatives, Chongwe, who are also 2014 runners up, topped Group A with six points while Solwezi were leading Group B with seven points after third round games played yesterday.
In Group A, Chongwe continued shinning beating Mitondo 2-1 thanks to goals by Moses Tembo and a well taken penalty by Isaac Phiri while the opponents scored through a penalty taken by Fred Mwiche.
Chizongwe are second in the group with four points after beating Mungwi 3-1 with goals coming through a Matthew Goma brace as Tonny Ngoma scored the other while Mungwi’s consolation came through Chanda Chisenga.
Defending champions Highridge faced a torrid time to qualify from the group as they are yet to register a win after playing to a 1-all draw against Mitondo following Day One’s 3-2 loss to Chongwe. Rodwell Simabwacha scored for Highridge while Francis Mubanga was on target for Mitondo.
Solwezi took command of Group B with the 2-1 thumping of Samfya courtesy of goals from Bruce Mumba and Ackim Chanda while the latter scored through Ackim Chanda.
In their third game, Solwezi were held to a barren draw by Kaoma, who moved to two points as Southern Province representatives Linda Day thrashed Mpika 4 -1 in a match that saw Thomas Banda score a hat trick making him the top scorer of the tournament as of Day Two.
Saineti Phiri scored the fourth goal was scored while Mpika goal came through Emmanuel Kaulwa. By press time in Group B, Linda were battling out against Mpika while in Group A, Chongwe was playing Mungwi.
Meanwhile, the games were watched by Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) technical director Honour Janza, Under 20 boys coach Chris Kaunda, head of club licensing Erick Mwanza and communications manager Nkweto Tembwe.
