POLICE in Mansa have appealed to the public for leads in finding the location of a corpse which has in the past two days been scavenged on by a pack of dogs that have severed two limbs.
Officers have combed the area near where the dogs were found with the limbs hoping to find the rest of the body in a case they believe is connected to that of a missing teenage girl.
Luapula deputy police chief Webby Shula said a report was received on around 07:00 hours from a member of the public on his way to work that had found dogs eating a human arm at an area between Mansa Water Works premises and the golf club.
Officers that rushed to the scene found a complete right human arm suspected to be that of a female.
The left arm was discovered on Thursday, again with a pack of dogs around the same area as the first arm.
Both limbs were picked by police officers and deposited in Mansa General Hospital mortuary.
“It was observed that the upper part of the first arm was suspected to have been eaten up by the dogs as it had no flesh. From its appearance, we suspect the arm could have been immersed in water for some days before it was discovered,” Mr Shula said.
He said it was possible the person to whom the limbs belonged could have drowned in Mansa River.
Mr Shula said the missing person’s report was filed on July 25 and there was strong suspicion the two arms could belong to this missing person.
“The search for the remainder of the body has intensified and we are hopeful the matter will be logically concluded when the remaining parts are found,” Mr Shula said.
In Chiengi, police have arrested a 59-year-old man in connection with a murder case that occurred after a brawl at a bar.
Alfred Mukalai, 38, of Chiponda Village in Chief Mununga’s area was beaten by three people with whom he differed as he made his way to buy a round of drinks.
Mr Mukalai was rushed to a rural health centre for medical attention as he was bleeding from the nose and mouth.
He was referred to St Paul’s Mission Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
A post-mortem report indicated the cause of death to be a hematoma on the brain.
Mr Shula identified one of the suspects as Wellingtone Musela and said a search for the other two suspects was on.
