THE Government has said it is committed to uplifting the welfare of vulnerable people in the country.
Community Development Mother and Child Health Minister Emerine Kabanshi said the Government was working with NGOs to facilitate the provision of healthcare and support to vulnerable groups.
The minister was speaking during the official launch of Divine Mercy Home at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka yesterday.
Ms Kabanshi said NGOs were given small grants from time to time to assist and motivate them in taking care of the vulnerable groups, including the aged and children.
The minister said the Government, through her ministry, was mandated to take care of the welfare of all vulnerable groups in society, including children.
She said the programmes provided the public welfare assistance scheme, which was a major social assistance programme aimed at providing basic necessities to the most vulnerable in form of food, clothing, education and health support.
She said it also had a provision of adoption and foster care services to ensure the provision of a safe and permanent home for children.
