ZAMBIA will kick off her campaign for a place at the Poland 2014 FIVB World Cup finals with a derby against fellow Southern Africa representatives Botswana when the qualifying series gets underway in Kenya next month.
According to the fixtures released by the African Volleyball Association (CAVB) yesterday, Zambia plays Botswana on February 6, then face Cape Verde the following day before battling it out against reigning continental champions Egypt on February 8 and will wrap up with a tough tie against hosts Kenya.
And coach Peter Kombaniya said the players were in great shape ahead of the tournament and that he would name his final team next week.
Kombaniya said in an interview that he was still assessing the players but was happy that morale among the lads was high.
“The players have been training hard, they are all fit and in good shape and by Saturday this week the names of the final team will be unveiled. I think they have done well since we got into camp and they look ready for the challenge that awaits them in Kenya,” he said.
