GOVERNMENT says it will start giving a monthly grant to the Special Olympics of Zambia because of the important role it plays in promoting sport.
Sports Minister Vincent Mwale said his ministry had pledged to give the Special Olympics a monthly grant to their budget and any other support needed.
Mwale said the ministry would continue supporting the Special Olympics because they play an important role in the development of sports in the country.
He said this during a Special Olympics luncheon for three athletes who won four medals in the United States of America recently.
The three athletes are Joshua Siyakulo who got two gold medals, silver medallist Daisy Nyuni and Kennedy Phiri, a bronze winner.
Mwale said the athletes have made the country proud with the achievements and that the ministry would continue supporting them in any way possible.
He also commended the sponsors, who included Trade Kings, for supporting the athletes and continuously aiding Special Olympics.
The Special Olympics board gave the three athletes a tablet each and hampers donated by Trade Kings.
