Scales of Justice - bigBy JULIUS PHIRI –
A FORTY-YEAR-OLD woman has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for defiling a 14-year-old boy of Chipata, Eastern Province.
High Court Judge Chalwe Mchenga jailed Malita Banda of Chiwayu Village for defiling the minor.
Malita committed the offence on April 15, this year after forcing the boy into her house.
The minor then reported the matter to his mother who complained to the police leading to Malita’s arrest.
Mr Justice Mchenga sent the woman to jail for 20 years with the offence of defilement.
He said the woman was supposed to be charged with defilement and not indecent assault which she was convicted on by the lower court earlier.
Judge Mchenga said there had been increased trends where women had joined a band wagon of men defiling minors in the country.
He disclosed that the 20 years simple imprisonment slapped on Malita should send a message to the women folk that the same law applied on men who defiled under-aged girls would be applicable to women who defiled minors.
