FIRST Lady Esther Lungu has donated K15,000 to women clubs in Nalolo District in Western Province in a bid to help the women enhance self-reliance.
The money would be used as revolving fund and was given to women clubs that were left out by the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health in the disbursement of village banking.
Ms Lungu also donated mealie-meal to more than 50 aged and disabled persons whom she urged to register for Social Cash Transfer for inclusion in the programme.
Ms Lungu, encouraged women and widows to start income generating activities in order to sustain their households and desist from the tendency of depending on hand-outs.
The First Lady was speaking at Muoyo Basic School Grounds in Nalolo District yesterday when she addressed 48 women clubs and people with disabilities.
Kupano ki Mata, Tumelo, Nembwele, Zwelopili, Makandauko, Liseli and Lutiye Women clubs were among the many clubs that benefitted from the cash.
The First Lady was in Nalolo District for an outreach programme of visiting the old aged, the disabled and the less privileged.
She also paid a courtesy call on the District Commissioner and the Litunga la Mboela at her Muoyo Palace.
Community Development, Mother and Child Health director for Social Welfare Stanfield Michelo said the new district has 28 households benefiting from the Social Cash Transfer Programme.
Mr Michelo however disclosed that the programme would soon be rolled out in order to have 100 per cent coverage of 2,505 households in the area.-ZANIS.
