RUGBY thrills return to the Copperbelt today when 11 teams battle for honours in the 2015 Ndola Sevens Championship.
Despite defending champions, Red Arrows pulling out from the event, other top teams like last year’s losing finalists, Nkwazi, Kitwe Playing Field (KPF), Green Buffaloes and Diggers seem set to seize the opportunity to fight for the K7,000 winners’ prize.
Apart from Arrows, Lusaka, Nchanga and Prisons also withdrew their participation from the tournament set for Ndola Wanderers Rugby Club.
Green Eagles will open the championship with a preliminary Pool A clash against Diggers B before Mufulira take on the hosts Ndola Wanderers’ A team in Pool B.
KPF A will kick off their Pool C campaign against Roan Antelope with Chibuluma clashing with Diggers A in Pool D while Green Buffaloes have a date with Konkola in Pool A.
The 2014 losing finalists, Nkwazi should have little difficulties in dispatching Kansanshi in the Pool B opener.
This one-day tournament will be spiced up with some women and veterans’ rugby matches.
