SPRINTER Sydney Siame last evening tumbled to a disappointing eighth place finish in the men’s 200m finals as Zambia’s participation in athletics ended on a low at the Congo Brazzaville 2015 All Africa Games (AAG).
It was a poor performance from the Youth Olympics gold winner who timed a frustrating 21.21 seconds, which was way below his personal best of 20.53 seconds.
Wilfred Koffy of Ivory Coast won the final timing 20.42 seconds with Nigerian Oduduru Divine getting silver after clocking 20.45 seconds while bronze went to Tega Odele (Nigeria) who hit 20.58 seconds.
Siame equally put up a less than impressive time in the semi final where he clocked 20.91 seconds to finish behind Divine who cruised to the finish line on 20.51 seconds.
The first round saw Siame time 21.09 seconds as the Zambian medal hopeful failed to impress at the Pan African Games.
In the women 200m semi finals, Zambia’s Lumeka Katunda finished in fourth position timing 24.14 seconds as Nigerian Ngozi Onwumere won the heat to sail through to the finals on 22.53 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Zambian national anthem played for the first time at the Games after Kabange Mupopo was awarded her gold medal on Wednesday night.
