THE Government says the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) should go ahead with its vision of constructing a modern cathedral in Luanshya.
Local Government and Housing Minister John Phiri said the church should continue with its vision of building the cathedral. Dr Phiri said that construction of the cathedral would lift Luanshya to a city status once the building was completed. He was speaking when he toured the construction site in Luanshya District yesterday. Dr Phiri, who was expected to officiate at the UCZ Luanshya Town Congregation fundraising luncheon at Moba Hotel in Kitwe, urged the church to ensure that the buildings housing the Zesco transformers at the church were painted once the construction of the facility was completed. Reverend Patrice Siyemeto from Luanshya said the congregation decided to embark on the project to accommodate all the members in the church.
Rev Siyemeto said the current congregation did not have enough space to accommodate all the members as they were forced to follow the proceedings of the service from outside.
