By MAIMBOLWA MULIKELELA –

THE Small Scale Farmers Development Agency (SAFADA) will sign an agriculture partnership agreement with the private sector at the general conference to be held in Lusaka this month.
The meeting will take place on October 14-16, 2015 at Chaminuka Lodge.
SAFADA director Boyd Moobwa said they were looking forward to a greener pasture for small-scale farmers in Zambia towards 2030 through a defined agriculture-oriented economic partnership agreement between the private sector and the small-scale farmers.
Mr Moobwa said Zambia was likely to face a serious food and income production crisis in the next five to 15 years because of climate change, commodity price distortions and unreliable institutional capacity to support the small-scale farmers.
This is contained in statement issued in Lusaka.
Mr Moobwa said it was important for various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Agriculture and seed and fertiliser companies to participate in the conference.
“SAFADA is inviting the mentioned and other stakeholders to meet small-scale farmers drown from 10 selected districts to negotiate possible means to resolve the current situation where small-scale farmers are termed as unreliable partners because of their poor economic and social status,” Mr Moobwa said.
