AN old man of Mkushi in Central Province has died from suspected bleeding after being tattooed by two traditional healers.
Willard Moomba, 74, was found dead with his body full of tattoos suspected to have been inflicted by the traditional doctors.
Central Province Police Commissioner Lombe Kamukoshi said in an interview yesterday that a razor blade and a dish containing traditional medicine suspected to have been used in the act had been confiscated.
One of the traditional healers, who has been identified as Paison Potashi of Masansa area, has been arrested to help the police with investigations while his accomplice, West Mupensho is on the run.
Ms Kamukoshi said that police had also launched investigations to establish what led to the tattooing of the deceased.
“I can confirm that a 74-year-old man bled to death after he was tattooed by two traditional healers. We are currently investigating the matter but we are holding one person while the other one is on the run,” Ms Kamukoshi said.
She said the body was lying in the Masansa mortuary awaiting post-mortem while a manhunt for Mupensho had been launched.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem conducted on bones of an 11-year-old girl suspected to have been murdered and dumped in the bush by unknown people in Kapiri Mposhi last month revealed that she was defiled.
The results also showed that the girl, identified as Priscilla Namukanzye of Ndeke Township, had a disjointed arm.
She was reported missing from home recently but her remains were only found in the bush on Monday last week.
Some pieces of her clothes were also found scattered by children who were looking for mice near Mufuzi Farm before the matter was reported to the police. Ms Kamukoshi said that officers who visited the scene found scattered bones and pieces of clothes which were picked and taken to the Kapiri Mposhi mortuary for post-mortem.
