By KENNEDY MUPESENI –
THE Government in collaboration with the Zambia Cooperative Federation (ZCF) has identified land for the installation of the Government sponsored solar milling plant in Kasama.
The contractor has since moved on site to prepare the ground for the installation of the plant.
Acting permanent secretary, Boniface Mbuzi said Government working hand in hand with ZCF,  has finalised the land issue.
“We have identified land near Lions Club where the facility will be installed,” Mr Mbuzi said.
Once operational, the milling plant will contribute significantly to low cost of mealie meal prices in the province.
Mr Mbuzi said the Provincial administration expected the contractor to expedite works for the locals to start enjoying benefits from the Presidential initiative.
“We expect them to expedite works now that the land and other logistics have been put in place by the Government,” he said.
Part of the 200 batch of milling plants arrived recently in Zambia to help ZCF commence the process of installation in different parts of the country.
ZCF director general James Chirwa said  three  of the 200 milling plants arrived at the request of the federation because of its urgency.
About 4,000 milling machines for primary cooperatives are expected to be installed in most parts of the country following the sourcing of US$20 million initial payment by the federation.
