By MARTIN MUSUNKA –

ZAMBIA Golf Union (ZGU) vice-president (South), Jason Kazilimani junior, has declared to contest as president of the country’s golf governing body.
Kazilimani said the standards of golf in the country have hit rock bottom and would prioritise corporate support for golf clubs in the country, to guarantee the development of the sport.
He said in an interview in Livingstone that, since the departure of ZCCM from sports sponsorship, most sports clubs have been going through challenges and he feels ZGU has an obligation to mobilise resources for them in order to enhance competition.
Kazilimani, who is KPMG senior partner and chief executive, said clubs needed to be supported through the intervention of ZGU as development has been hampered because of lack of financial muscle among clubs.
He would use his networking skills in the corporate domain to organise funding for clubs and place importance on the development of junior golf.
“It has been paining that development of golf in Zambia has been affected because of lack of funds. Since the end of ZCCM sports sponsorship of those glory days, the sport has really stagnated as there is no flow of financial support.
“I am therefore declaring my candidature for the position of ZGU president so that I can take to the table what needs to be done to promote golf in the country. I will therefore go there with the sole aim of funds mobilisation for clubs and junior golf by way of seeking corporate intervention,” said Kazilimani, who has already filed his nomination papers.- Story courtesy of SUMA SYSTEMS.
