By MILDRED KATONGO  –
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has commissioned a modern theatre at Kavu health centre in Ndola constructed with the support from the Direct Aid for Africa (DAFA) at the cost of more than K2 million.
President Lungu said the Government had prioritised the placement of health services closer to the communities.
He said in a speech read for him by Health Minister Joseph Kasonde that Government valued the partnership with churches, in particular Dominican Sisters at Kavu Health Centre that had supported the construction and equipping of the facility through the DAFA.
“Government has put the provision of health services as close to the community as possible, in line with the national health policy. My Government has prioritised health and is committed to attaining equity of access to cost-effective, quality healthcare services,” he said.
The Government recognised the efforts being made by the church in complementing its efforts to continue providing quality healthcare.
He said the Government alone would not meet increased demand for quality healthcare services without the help of churches and the private sector.
President Lungu said the Government was committed to constructing, upgrading and modernising health facilities across the country for effective and efficient quality healthcare.
It was Government’s vision to also improve staffing in the health sector through opening up of new training sites.
President Lungu said that efforts would result in improved health delivery to the people on the Copperbelt and the entire country.
DAFA founder Barney Kerry said he had a heart for the Zambians, a move that made him start an organisation aimed at helping the people in the country.
Mr Kerry said he appreciated the accountability and transparency of the Dominicans, their commitment towards the work they were doing in helping the Zambian people.
He said his organisation had supported a number of projects in the country and that it would continue to do so.
