AFRICA is poised to hit the world fashion headlines for the third consecutive year, during what is being referred to as the Africa Fashion Reception.
This event being described as Africa’s biggest fashion galore, will have some of the continent’s biggest fashion designers some of whom originate from Zambia.
Some of the local designers taking part in this event include Fay Designs, Chizo Designs, Bulongo Clothing among many others, an event being coordinated by Afromedia Entertainment, the organizers of the Zambian Fashion Week.
During the event slated for Paris-France, Zambia will have a runway showcase and exhibition where local fashion designers will be able to promote their potential to the whole world.
The National Art Council of Zambia (NAC) has sponsored the booth which will be showcasing Zambian fashion designs, while the Africa Fashion Reception is being organised by Legendary Gold Limited in collaboration with the African Union and the Nigerian Embassy in France.
The Africa Fashion Reception which is a Pan African initiative, is scheduled to take place on November 21, 2015 at the prestigious and historic venue- Salle Wagram in Paris.
This year’s event will bring together fashion designers, fashion icons, ambassadors, ministers and media from over 30 African countries in a celebration of cultural diversity expressed through the artistic fashion.
The reception is being convened under the theme ‘Africa is the new inspiration for global fashion.’
The Africa Fashion Reception is aimed at building bridges by creating free trade and partnerships among fashion practitioners throughout the African continent.
It also seeks to attract global attention to Africa’s very rich and diversified dress culture which can be explored as a catalyst for the social economic growth of the continent’s garment/textile industry.
The event promises to expand the potential power of fashion as a tool of fighting poverty in Africa by creating wealth through the empowerment of women and youths in the various fashion vocations.
It offers capacity building schemes, workshops and setting up of medium/small scale businesses thereby supporting the United Nations
Millennium Development Goals and the African Union Agenda 2063.
Each year, the Africa Fashion Reception offers the Welcoming Gala every January at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa during the African Heads of State Summit, and the first edition of the Africa Fashion Reception in 2013 presented designers from 16 African countries. 2014 edition saw designers from 25 countries participating.
This year, designers from 30 countries will be participating, and the AU will be hosting all countries that participated in the 2015 Paris event to a Welcoming Gala event at the AU headquarters, Addis Ababa, January, 26th 2016.
The welcoming Gala has been lined up as one of the side events to be held during the African Union’s Heads of State Summit holding 24th – 31st January, 2016.
Activities lined up during the African Fashion Reception in Addis Ababa will include the first African Fashion Business Forum with the theme ‘Exploring African Rich Dress Culture for its Social Economic Growth’.
The 2016 African host country will be unveiled at this Welcoming Gala in Addis Ababa.
