Evans KangwaBy SANDRA MWILA –
CHIPOLOPOLO striker Evans Kangwa says Zambia has high chances of making a debut at the Russia 2018 World Cup.
Kangwa said in an interview from his Israel base that the Chipolopolo were in good form and could qualify to the World Cup.
The 2012 Africa Cup winning star said the team should ensure they beat Sudan in the two-legged qualifier to brighten the chances of reaching Russia.
“I think it’s now time for Zambia to qualify to the World Cup. We have high chances looking at the current form. The team is doing well, qualifying to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the Africa Under-23 Championship is a clear demonstration of the good shape,” Kangwa said.
The Chipolopolo guest Sudan on Wednesday before playing the return leg on Sunday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Kangwa said the game would not be easy but that the players should put in their best.
He said Sudan was a good team especially when they were playing at home and the Chipolopolo should be wary.
“Sudan is a good team and should not be underrated. Football has evolved and every team is doing well and we should be adequately prepared for them,” he said.
Kangwa, who plays for Hapoel Ra’anana alongside left-back Emmanuel Mbola, is likely to be called for the Sudan World Cup qualifier.
Coach ‘Chicken’ George Lwandamina has indicated that he will name nine professionals for the Sudan game.
Kangwa said if called upon for the Sudan clash he would do his best to help the team qualify to the next round of the World Cup qualifiers.
“It is every player’s duty if called upon to help the team achieve something. If I am called for the Sudan game I will surely do my best,” he said.
The likes of captain Rainford Kalaba and his vice Nathan Sinkala, Stopilla Sunzu, Collins Mbesuma, Kennedy Mweene and Kangwa are favourites to be summoned for the back-to-back qualifiers.
