THE EIGHT-SIX kilometre Luangwa River – Chama Road will be completed by next month while all the township roads in the district have since been completed.
The development has elated business executives and residents who hailed Government for looking into the plight of the people by reshaping the road network.
The 115 kilometre Matumbo-Luangwa River stretch had on the other hand, been extended for another one month due to re-alignment of the road and other additional scope of works.
The Road Development Agency (RDA) was impressed with the commitment exhibited by the two contractors embarking on the projects despite financial difficulties.
The two contractors, China Civil Engineering working on the Luangwa River to Chama Road was working on lot-one which was at a cost of K492 million, while China Jiangxi was working on the Matumbo to Luangwa River Road under lot-two, which was being carried out at a revised contract value of K466 million.
RDA senior public relations manager Loyce Saili said the commitment exhibited by both contractors amidst uncleared payments was encouraging and had seen the projects being completed on schedule except for lot-two, which had been extended.
She assured both contractors that her office had already commenced processing the required payments and would be paid out once all administrative procedures were concluded.
Ms Saili said the quality of roads on both projects was impressive, up to the required standards and urged residents to guard against unnecessary road damages.
The RDA had made a policy to improve township roads, wherever it was carrying out road works.
