Margarate MwanakatweBy CHATULA KANGALI –

THE Government says Chinese investors who want to set up a car battery manufacturing plant cannot do so at the closed Mansa Batteries because the two plants will be different.
Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe said Mansa had been identified as one of the districts that should host a car battery manufacturing plant but not at the closed Mansa Batteries plant.
Ms Mwanakatwe said it was not possible to take the investment to Mansa Batteries because what the Chinese would want to start manufacturing was different from what was previously produced in the area.
“The Chinese can set up the car battery plant anywhere in the country but we have decided to take them to Mansa because the people in the  area have been crying for investment. I will soon take the delegation to the area,” she said in an interview yesterday.
A delegation of Chinese investors which is currently in the country has expressed interest to set up a car battery manufacturing plant in Zambia.
She said Mansa had for a long time been begging for investment and that the setting up of the car battery plant by the Chinese investor would create  employment  opportunities  for  the  locals.
