By HELEN ZULU –
FALLSWAY Timbers Group of companies has commenced the processing of mangoes and other fruits at its fruit and vegetable processing unit in Livingstone.
The fruit and vegetable processing unit was constructed at a cost of US$3 million.
Group chairperson, Shayam Vora said the group had commenced the processing of mangoes following the start of the season.
Mr Vora said the fruit and vegetable processing unit had provided market facility to more than 2,000 small scale farmers in Livingstone, Kazungula, Zimba, Sesheke and Kalomo districts in Southern Province.
He was speaking in an interview in Lusaka.
“We have commenced the processing of mangoes at our fruit and vegetable processing unit in Livingstone which was constructed at a cost of US$3 million. This unit has provided market  facility to more than 2000 small scale farmers in Livingstone, Kazungula, Zimba, Sesheke and Kalomo districts in Southern Province,” Mr Vora said.
He said the unit would be processing mangoes, oranges, tomatoes, onions, garlic, lemon, chilli, dry beans and honey into various end products.
Mr Vora said the production would not depend on supply from other producers but the company would produce its own fruits and vegetables and add value.
He said the group was targeting to be processing 9,000 tonnes of vegetable and fruits in the first five months of production.
