PRESIDENTIAL hopeful Andrew Kamanga has questioned the relevance of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) constitution.
Kamanga said in an interview yesterday that the current FAZ executive committee has proved that they have no regard for the constitution hence they could even manage to breach the document.
He said it was regrettable that Football House could sneak in a clause in the constitution on Club Licensing without following the procedure.
Kamanga challenged the FAZ executive committee to provide proof that the constitution was amended during last year’s annual general meeting (AGM) and followed the rightful procedure in accordance with the constitution.
“The current FAZ executive has no regard for the constitution; it seems it’s no longer relevant because they are not following its provisions. What’s so hard about following it (constitution)? It is very clear on how a constitution should be amended and it should be by the councillors at an AGM and also a notice should be circulated on the proposal to amend,” he said.
The constitution which was circulated during the reconvened AGM held in Lusaka in October saw a new clause incorporated as Article 45 A Club Licensing when the past constitution only had Article 46 (judicial Bodies) and Article 46 Disciplinary Committee.
“Football House should provide proof whether it followed the constitution procedure or not so that we know if the constitution is relevant,” he said.
Kamanga said Football House is claiming that the constitution was amended two years ago but wondered why former names of former office bearers still existed on the document.
He said FAZ should revoke the constitution if they have failed to follow it because Football House had a habit of breaching.
“FAZ are saying the amended the constitution two years ago but why does the constitution still have names of former office bearers. They should just issue a statement that they are revoking the constitution because they are not following it.
“This is not the first time they have done it, even with the reconvened AGM,” Kamanga said.
He said there was so much illegality in FAZ and as such, the executive committee members cannot be trusted to handle the affairs of football in the country.
