More districts to access social Cash Transfer

GOVERNMENT will increase the number of districts benefiting from the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) programme from 50 to 77 countrywide.
Community Development Mother and Child Health Permanent Secretary Davies Chikamata said funding for the SCT has improved and this will help reduce poverty levels.
Dr Chikamata who is on the Copperbelt to monitor how the SCT was helping communities said the facility was realizing positive results and improving the livelihood of beneficiaries.
“We will increase the number of districts to benefit from the social cash transfer, because we have seen that the money being allocated is helping to uplift the living standards of vulnerable people in society.
We only had 50 districts but now we are adding 27 more districts to benefit,” he said.
He expressed commitment to ensure the SCT covered all the provinces especially where there was need for assistance.
Dr Chikamata who appealed to the beneficiaries to be productive said the programme to have all the ten provinces benefit would be done in phases.
Ndola social welfare officer Harriet Ngosa said that about K228, 483 had been paid out to 102 beneficiaries at Kang’onga Production Center for the blind, this was from May last year to June this Year.
“Kang’onga center for the blind has beneficiaries who have been paid K228, 483 from last year to June this year,” she said.
