Three Chambishi miners die

THREE miners including a Chinese have died after an explosion at the South East Ore Body (SEOB) in Chambishi.
The miners all from Tongguan Mine Construction Company, a contracting company at Non Ferrous Corporation Africa (NFCA) died after an accident at 680 meter level at SEOB.
They were identified as Chen Weibin, 53, of Chinese House in Mukulumpe area, Juma Chibuye, 38 and Joseph Mumba, 53, from Zambia Township in Chambishi.
The accident happened in the morning yesterday, when Mr Chibuye and Mr Mumba were setting up explosives in readiness for blasting, while Mr Chen was drilling the ground.
Both Copperbelt Police chief Joyce Kasosa and Sinozam Hospital human resources manager Justin Njovu confirmed the accident in separate interviews.
Mr Njovu said the miners were taken to the hospital as Brought in Dead (BID) with the first one being the Chinese around 09:00 hours.
“The miners were brought in as BIDs after an explosion in Chambishi and the first one to be brought in was the Chinese around 09:00 hours, while the two Zambians were also brought in after 11:00 hours,” he said.
Mr Njovu said the bodies of the three miners were at the hospital mortuary.
