By HOPE BWALYA –
DEFENCE Minister Richwell Siamunene has announced that more than 168,000 people have applied to join the defence forces.
Mr Siamunene said following the advertisement in August, the military received 168,119 applications of people interested to join the Zambia Army, the Zambia Air Force and the Zambia National Service (ZNS).
He said at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the ministry would need enough time to scrutinise all the people in order to come up with the best applicants.
“In view of the overwhelming response, the public is hereby informed that the services have not yet concluded the process of shortlisting,” he said.
The defence forces in August this year, advertised for recruitment of military personnel, who included professionals in different disciplines.
He cautioned the public to ignore any information regarding the shortlisting of candidates that had not been issued by the ministry.
This followed speculation that the recruitment exercise had been concluded by the three defence wings.
Mr Siamunene said the names of the short listed candidates would be published in the daily newspapers and successful candidates would be invited for aptitude tests, medicals and physical fitness tests.
