A United Kingdom-based export credit agency has expressed interest to extend its services to Zambia.
A United Kingdom Export Finance (UKEF) senior representative is expected to visit the country to share information about the institution, and to determine how best it could support UK businesses and potential investors in Zambia.
According to a statement released by British High Commission political and communications manager Alfred Kapalayi, UKEF regional head for Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and India, Sam Hoexter would be in Zambia today.
Acting British High Commissioner to Zambia, Lucy Joyce said in Lusaka that the trip to Zambia would express UKEF’s desire to learn more about the country.
She said the trip would help UKEF to know the efforts that the Zambian Government and the private sector make in developing opportunities that grow the economy.
The visit would also demonstrate increased interest among UK companies to do business with Zambia.
Governments and businesses importing goods and services from the UK stand to benefit from UKEF’s product portfolio.
As part of UKEF’s £3 billion direct lending facility, special credit terms are given to renewable energy projects, water projects, and rail infrastructure with repayment terms of up to 18 years.
Public private partnerships are also considered.
