GREEN Eagles put up a strong performance at the weekend to win the Zambia Handball Open Championship that attracted 10 Zimbabwean clubs at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
Eagles finished top with 12 points to be crowned champions ahead of Lusaka Tigers who finished on 10 points. The Zambia National Service (ZNS)-sponsored side had to labour for the 9-6 victory against Kasisi Dynamite.
In the women senior category, it was again Eagles who emerged champions with nine points, while the runners-up Kasisi Dynamite finished with six points.
It was an exciting tournament that saw Zambian clubs dominate most categories in the championship, but Zimbabwean side Bradley ensured they went back home with a title after winning the Under-16 category.
Bradley amassed 10 points ahead of Northmead who were the runners-up with six points.
In the Under-14 category, Kasisi Dynamite emerged victorious with eight points as Zimbabwean club Moffat amassed six points to finish second.
Meanwhile, more accolades followed Eagles as Musa Kambundu and Patience Chanda emerged top scorers of the tournament in the senior men and women categories, respectively.
Adrian Mweene of Kasis Dynamite won the Under-16 top scorer award as Zimbabwe’s Flojinek Tydrahuni of Moffat got similar praise in the Under-14 event.
