POLICE in Muchinga Province have arrested a 35-year-old teacher of Donald Siwale Primary School in Nakonde for assaulting his wife following a domestic dispute.
Muchinga Province Police commissioner Auxensio Daka said yesterday that Gadiner Siwila of Katozi Village in Nakonde beat up his wife after a marital dispute.
Peggy Nachamba, who is also a teacher, sustained injuries after being beaten by her husband.
“We have arrested a teacher of Donald Siwale Primary School who beat up his wife. She sustained injuries and has swollen eyes,” Mr Daka said.
He said Siwila was in Police custody and would soon appear in court for the charge of occasioning actual bodily harm.
Meanwhile, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested a 36-year-old Tanzanian for trafficking in heroin.
Hussein Tayari Musa, 36, a Tanzanian business executive of Kibaha area in Dar-es-Salaam, was arrested for trafficking in heroin weighing 853 grammes concealed in a shoe.
The suspect was arrested at Chirundu border as he was coming from South Africa enroute to Tanzania.
DEC public relations officer, Theresa Katongo confirmed the arrest yesterday, and said Musa, who was currently detained at Chirundu Police Station, appeared in the Siavonga magistrate’s court on Monday for mention.
Ms Katongo said trial would commence on January 11, 2016.
Meanwhile, the Commission in Lusaka has arrested two bus drivers, a conductor and a mechanic of Matero Township for trafficking in cannabis.
The four suspects who include Bwalya Kapoyo, 29, a bus driver, Boston Sakala, of an unknown age and also a bus driver, Evaristo Mafinge, 29, a bus conductor, and Patrick Mtongo, 35, a mechanic, were intercepted at Chingwere Cemetery.
The Commission has since seized a Toyota Hiace and an Inverter from the suspects.
Also arrested in Lusaka was Frank Mwangilwa, a 19-year-old pupil of Olympia Township, for trafficking in 100 tablets of diazepam and two pre-packs of cannabis.
In Central Province, the Commission has arrested Sillet Chelo, 30, a peasant farmer of Kanyensha Village in Mumbwa District for trafficking in 12.6 kilogrammes of cannabis.
All the suspects will appear in court soon.
