A LOCAL entrepreneur who runs a butchery outlet in Lusaka says that consumers have stopped storing bulk chunks of meat, a situation which has necessitated innovation among  meat providers.
Charity Munthali said it was for that reason that a new concept dubbed, “butchery on call” was hatched to service the consumers as their need for meat products arises.
Ms Munthali, is managing director at Katuna’s Corner Butchery, an entity incorporated in July 2015, which has invested more than K115,000 in establishing a butchery on call store in Lusaka.
She said that the company spent K115,000 to set up a unique butchery highlighted by the workplace delivery component.
“After seeing the gap in the market, looking at the traffic in town for busy people to get into shopping malls and the ongoing power cuts which are prompting households to buy fresh products in small quantities, we decided to  come up with a ‘butchery on call’ store to cater for their needs,” Ms Munthali said.
She said this in an interview in Lusaka yesterday.
She said people no longer store beef  in bulk hence the need to come up with the concept to service their needs.
Among the products the butchery is supplying on the door steps of the consumers include beef, pork, fish and dry vegetables.
Ms Munthali said people were slowly buying into the concept, looking at the  increased number of orders.
The entity intends to procure modern butchery equipment for the processing of Hungarian sausages and other meat products in 2016.
Ms Munthali said having been in the market for six months, the company wanted to expand business by increasing the output of meat products.
“Definitely local consumers need to appreciate local products and we entrepreneurs need to be innovative for us to continue retaining customers,” Ms Munthali said.
So far, the butchery has a delivery vehicle, a fully fledged cold-room and other meat processing equipment.
