ZAMTEL has said it will next year roll out more than 1,000 telecommunication towers across the country in a bid to improve connectivity.
Company chief marketing officer Evans Muhanga said the new towers would improve connectivity between users and make communication easier.
Mr Muhanga said in Lusaka that the company aimed at reaching out to everyone in the rural areas by giving them broad band and mobile services.
He said information and communications technologies (ICTs) had significantly transformed the lives of the users, and that the company would continue to work towards improving the lives of the people across Zambia.
Mr Muhanga noted that ICTs had a significant role to play in promoting social and economic development, including the improvement of individual livelihoods.
“We are going to roll out more than 1,000 towers in the country especially in those places where we have not yet reached.
“We want to connect everyone and by doing so, we will have more customers coming,” he said in an interview.
Mr Muhanga further indicated that the company was going to refurbish its old buildings into modern structures.
He said the company was targeting to be rated at number two in the next five years, adding that the company would work hard to ensure it achieved this goal.
“We want to be at number two in terms of rating in the next five years. Currently, we are at number three with MTN Zambia being first and Airtel Zambia being the second best mobile service provider in the country,” Mr Muhanga said.
On  December 16, this year, Zamtel officially opened its K1 million centre at East Park Mall in Lusaka in an effort to bring products and services closer to the community.
The opening of the East Park Mall outlet brought to four the number of shops opened this year.
The outlets that have so far been commissioned include Twin Palm at Salama Park in Lusaka, Chilenje in Lusaka, and Jacaranda Mall in Ndola on the Copperbelt.
