CHRISTIAN Democratic Party (CDP) leader Daniel Pule has announced that the 50 per cent plus one clause calls for alliances since no party in Zambia would contest elections alone and win outrightly.
Dr Pule said the ruling party and the opposition would not marshall majority votes without joining hands with other parties.
He said he was yet to announce whether or not he would forge an alliance with President Edgar Lungu, whose leadership he described as good and visionary.
The CDP leader, however, said he was ready to work with any party if he was approached.
“My party and I would like to be in an alliance with a winning team, but I will not disclose yet which one since we will cross the bridge when we reach there,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Pule has commended National Restoration Party leader Elias Chipimo Jr for withdrawing from the presidential race, stating that it was a wise decision considering the 50 per cent plus one clause in the new Constitution soon to be signed by President Lungu.
“President Lungu has exhibited good leadership. Take for example the issue of hiking of the electricity tariffs; he did not leave it to the Energy Regulation Board to announce the increment, he took a leading role by making that announcement first. That is why the people have received it well,” Dr Pule said.
Dr Pule, who is a clergyman, has also reaffirmed his support for the Head of State for launching the Tabernacle National House of Prayer and declaring October 18 as a day of national prayers.
