FORMER United National Independence Party (UNIP) secretary general, Grey Zulu, has said that the amended Constitution will provide Zambia an opportunity to develop.
Mr Zulu said Zambia was constantly building on what it had and the newly assented to amendments to the Constitution by President Edgar Lungu would help foster nation building.
“We should always try to build the nation. We should do our best because this is our country.
“The signing of this Constitution is a great achievement for the Zambian people,” he said.
Mr Zulu said in an interview in Lusaka that the signing of the Constitution was a historic and momentous occasion.
He said all Zambians should embrace the milestone because, like a person, a nation needed to grow.
Mr Zulu said a person, when growing, changed in physical appearance and that applied to the nation’s characteristics like the Constitution which were equally bound to change in appearance.
“In the first place, we were only three million people, now we are 13 million. So the nation has changed. The signing was good because it has embraced the growth,” he said.
He said he was happy to have witnessed the signing event.
Meanwhile, Northmead Assemblies of God overseer Joshua Banda said the newly signed Constitution was a culmination of a number of Constitution processes.
Bishop Banda, who is also the National House of Prayer board chairperson, said there had been so many constitutional making processes that he had been  part of, which did not conclude the work, but that finally, those processes had been fulfilled.
“I am happy because I have been on a number of commissions that dealt with the Constitution and this particular signing by President Lungu brings all those aspirations to fruition,” he said.
He said he was glad that the signing was done at Heroes National Stadium because it increased the levels of ownership of the document.
Above all, the style of assenting did not matter because what was most important was the fact that President Lungu signed the amendments into Law.
