GOVERNMENT will expand health infrastructure and funding to the health sector to increase access to services, Health Deputy Minister Chitalu Chilufya has said.
Dr Chilufya said Government had pumped K2.8 million in modernising the Livingstone Central Hospital through the procurement of various equipment to scale up service delivery.
He was speaking in Livingstone yesterday during the official opening of the Renal Unit and Sergical Out Patient complex at Livingstone Central Hospital.
Dr Chilufya said the Renal Unit and Sergical Out Patient, would help reduce the number of patients being referred to other hospitals for specialist treatment.
Government was also taking development to other parts of the country as it was constructing 99 health posts in Southern Province.
He said this was in a bid to help women reduce the long distances covered to access health services such as maternity care.
He urged medical personnel at the hospital to take care of the equipment so that they could help as many patients as they could in the provision of quality health care.
Dr Chilufya also applauded management at the hospital for better services in managing the health institution.
