POWER Dynamos have rubbished claims by town bitter rivals Nkana that the signing of defender Christopher Munthali is legitimate.
Nkana president Everisto Kabila on Friday alleged that the club had signed Munthali as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Power at the end of the 2015 season.
But Power secretary Ricky Mamfunda said in an interview yesterday that Munthali still had a season to go on his contract.
“Maybe he (Munthali) has another contract with Nkana but with us, it hasn’t expired. Just that language doesn’t make sense. They haven’t written to us and they haven’t had any discussions with us,” Mamfunda said.
Nkana said Munthali, who is currently away on Chipolopolo duty at the 2016 CAF African Nations Championship in Rwanda, has signed a three-year deal that was concluded at the end of 2015.
Munthali earlier spent two seasons on loan at Nkana from 2013 to 2014 before returning to Power in 2015.
Meanwhile, Nkana are in Livingstone for their eight-day training camp in the tourist capital.
Team manager Charles Chakataziya said the 27-member team is staying at Sunset Junction Lodge and that the team was expected to hold its first training session yesterday afternoon.
