By SANDRA MWILA –
TWO conflicting contracts have emerged that show that defender Christopher Munthali’s deal with Power Dynamos ended on December 31, 2015, while the other indicates December 31, 2016.
Munthali has been at the centre of controversy concerning his purported move to Nkana from Power after claiming that his contract with the Arthur Davies outfit ended and that he was a free agent.
The contract obtained from Power shows that the Munthali signed a two-year contract effective January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2016.
“The duration of this contract is two years with effect from 1st January 2015 until 31st December 2016. This contract is an extension of the current contract which expires on 31st December 2014.
“This contract may be extended at any time during its term upon agreement of the parties or renewed at the end of the contract term,” read part of the contract which Power has under point 3.0.
The contract was signed by Benny Simukoko as club chairperson and Ricky Mamfunda as secretary and Munthali in the presence of Eugene Mpolokoso an accountant.
But Munthali’s contract shows that it is supposed to expire on December 31, 2015 having signed a two-year contract effective January 1, 2014.
“The duration of this contract is two years effect from 1st January 2014 until 31st December 2015. This contract is an extension to the contract which expires on 31 December, 2014.
“This contract may be extended at any time during its term upon agreement of the parties or renewed at the end of the contract,” reads Munthali’s contract in part.
Mamfunda in an interview said the club had forwarded the relevant documents to Football House to deal with the matter as Munthali maintained that he was a free agent before signing for arch rivals Nkana.
