MUSICIAN Wezi is this monthend unleashing her debut gospel album titled Uhai Ep.
The album launch will be hosted by Lusaka’s Alliance Francaise.
The singer recently took time off her preparations to bring her fans to speed about where she had been and what she had been up to. She was born Victoria Wezi Mhone on May 25, 1992 and was raised in Ndola on the Copperbelt.
Her father is the late Apostle Simon Mhone and her mother is Pastor Royce Chanje Banda who is currently living in Lusaka.
Wezi said her parents encouraged her to sing and by the time she was seven years old, she had already sung for family members, school-mates and teachers.
She also wrote poems as well as her own song by the time she turned 11.
In primary school, Wezi was the leader of a singing group in Scripture Union.
Throughout junior and senior high schools, Wezi could sing in front of the whole school during presentations.
Professionally, Wezi started music in 2012.
She is proud of her Christian faith.
Wezi regards neither rules nor laws unless they fall in line with her faith.
She loves her life and has an endless list of hobbies.
The songbird is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the Humanities at the University of Zambia (UNZA). Wezi’s dream is to become a renowned brand in Africa and around the world, combining knowledge in Social Sciences and musical skills to inspire different people from all walks of life.
Her personal theme is Spreading Hope.
Wezi described her music as being soulful.
She said she was inspired by deep thoughts and emotions based on her upbringing.
Wezi said she was influenced by all music genres, be it hip-hop or Kalindula.
She is also a fan of ‘good music’.
Wezi loves every ‘brilliant musician’ who has ever walked the local music scene from the early days till now.
She has been inspired by Pompi and Zone Fam while globally, her biggest influences are Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Brandy,
Ne-Yo, Celine Dion, Cece Winans, Bob Marley and 2 Pac.
Wezi once took part in the Airtel Trace Music Stars competition.
The finale to crown the Zambian winner took place at The Web were she was beaten into second position by Bernard Shaluchiso.
