Mwiimba MalamaBy JULIUS PHIRI –

MUCHINGA Province Minister Mwimba Malama has condemned the Road Development Agency (RDA) for awarding a contract to a company that has failed to mobilise equipment for works on the Chama-Matumbo Road.
Mr Malama, who yesterday toured the Chama-Matumbo Road project, said some engineers at RDA were not helping the country because of their attitude towards work.
The minister blamed RDA engineers for hiring another contractor who had not moved on site for the past three years waiting for mobilisation of funds from the Government.
The minister described the move as retrogressive because the Government wanted to deliver a good road network for the people.
He wondered why the contract was not given to the contractor who was already on site and that it would have saved the Government a lot of money and time.
Meanwhile, people complained to the minister that although the road construction had finished, it could not be used because of a lack of bridges over Luangwa and Kapemba rivers.
Chama residents blamed RDA for the situation, saying the agency was not showing seriousness.
They said RDA had given a contract to China AVEC to do the Chama-Muyombe Road but the contractor had been on site for one year nine months waiting for drawings from the agency.
The surprised residents wondered how the country would develop with such an attitude from the engineers.
