PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu yesterday signed three African Union (AU) treaties at the ongoing 26th Summit of Heads of state and Governments.

The three treaties were signed before AU Legal Counsel Professor Vincent Nmehielle and witnessed by Justice Minister Ngosa Simbyakula, Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the AU Susan Sikaneta and other officials from the Ministry of Justice as well as the AU.

The treaties that President Lungu signed include the AU Convention on Cyber Security and Personal Data Protection, the African Charter of the Values of and Principles of Decentralisation, Local Governance and Local Development, the Agreement for the Establishment of the African Risk Capacity ( ARC).

Speaking shortly after the signing ceremony, President Lungu said Zambia had signed the treaties and what remained was to ratify and domesticate them. – ZANIS
